FAQs about the Village

VillageBid.com wants to answer any question you may have. Email us at info@VillageBid.com or visit the Village Blog if you don’t see your question addressed here.

Q:  Do you screen the people doing the services?

A: No, we are simply a conduit for putting the service buyer and service provider together. It is up to Village members to rate and critique each other. You can choose to filter providers by indicating the provider must have a license, be a member of the Better Business Bureau or have a listing on Angie’s List.

Q:  I noticed I can upload a PDF document. What if I only have it in Word and I don’t know how to save it as a PDF?

A: Easy—fax it to VillageBid.com at 866.454.4274 and we will convert it to a PFD file for you. You can also purchase Adobe Acrobat so you can save documents as PDF.

Q:  What if I don’t see the service that I need performed in the Directory?

A: You can post any un-categorized service in the “Open Market” heading. If we get enough people asking for that service we will create a sub-heading for that service.

Q:  As a service provider what do I do if someone is less than forthright about the work to be performed? Am I obligated to perform the work at the agreed upon price?

A: No. If the work is different from what you bid for you are under no obligation to perform the work at the agreed upon bid price. Simply retract the bid and offer your explanation in the critique/feedback. The Village Marketplace will identify the buyers and providers who abuse this feature. If either buyer or service provider routinely back-out of a deal they will be asked to leave the Village.

Q:  I know someone who can use this service, however they do not have a computer. Is there a way to call in the work or a bid?

A:  Unfortunately, VillageBid.com—since it is free—is unable to enter orders for you. If you know someone with a computer they can post the need for a service to post of respond to bids for you and you can hire someone to do this for you.

Q:  Do we pay VillageBid.com once the work is complete?

A: No, you will pay the service provider in the manner agreed to during the bidding process.

Q:  What if someone posts objectionable material or posts some illegal activity what do we do?

A: The Village is what we make it. We ask our members to help police the Village for inappropriate interactions or postings. If you discover this activity you can flag the posting or bid and the Village council will determine if the complaint is valid. If the Village council is unsure they will ask all the members to attend a virtual town meeting and vote on the issue.
